YongShuo New Years!
With a second extended weekend in a row I’ve decided to come to YongShuo again to celebrate the New Years on West Street. As tempting as it was to go back to Hong Kong my budget just didn’t allow it . . . unless I wanted to forgo my Spring Festival Vacation around SE Asia. Plans for Spring Festival are always changing (especially since I didn’t get my Vietnam Visa) but it looks like i’ll be ending it back in the HK because Carmen is going to come and visit. How weird is it that I’ll be the one showing her around when she comes
Photo Uploading and the Great Firewall
I went to upload my photos to facebook and flickr and came across issues with both. The facebook one was fairly simple to fix but th firefox issue was a bit harder. If you use flickr in china and have been getting a cookie issue the information below should fix it for you.

I heart Hong Kong
Although I’m classifying this post under China I feel that I should make it a separate category. . . . but fear of the great firewall prevents me from doing so. From the moment I crossed the border to Hong Kong from mainland China (Reason #1 it’s not China: you have to go through boarder/customs) and saw signs that said $1500 fine for spitting or littering (Reason #2: It’s clean) I knew I was in love. Once I had crossed over I needed to change my money (Reason #3: They don’t use Chinese currency, instead they have their own that each bank individually prints up). This was an easy enough task since everyone speaks English despite Cantonese being the official language (Reason #4: they speak a different language) and once I had my Hong Kong Dollars (HKD) I went to go buy an Octopus card.
Spring Festival Travel Plans (draft 1)
For Chinese New Year I will get approximately six weeks off in which I plan to travel through SE Asia. I was doing some research and found some free tickets (tax only) which lead me to finally planning out my proposed itinerary. Obviously this probably won’t happen in full but here is what I would like to do:
twittering and
As many have noticed I’ve been twittering lately (and no twittering is not something I do to release sexual frustration). Twitter is a web application that allows you to update what your doing and let others track/stalk/follow your activities. In fact twitter is pretty much the same as the status update on facebook although a bit more mashable (ability to integrate with other web applications.) Obviously if your on this site you’ve noticed the status updates that have been added on the right. There were plugins for wordpress that would allow me to integrate my facebook status on this site (which was my first preference )but facebook does not allow you to send mobile updates from your phone if you live outside of the US, Canada, or UK. And with me currently being in China for another 7 months or so twitter was the logical choice to integrate with this site. Okay now your probably like that’s great but that doesn’t explain why on facebook I’m twittering. Well the answer to that is in the previous blog entry in that I installed my first ever facbook application which pulls my twitter status update into my facebook update so I don’t have to update it in two locations! And just like facebook use to insert the word “is” in all updates this application inserts the word “twittering”. Hopefully they see the light soon and make it an option, otherwise when I come back to the states I’ll probably stop twittering.
