I’ve gotten use to the random power outages here in China and when they happen I try to find something to do.  So today when the power went out I headed off to the gym for a quick run and a swim in the pool.  After leaving the gym I went to my favorite night snacks place for dinner then headed on the bus to come back home which is where the fun started.  If you’ve had the joy of riding the bus at night from the city to my school you’ll know that there are absolutely no lights to signal where the exit is and the bus won’t stop there unless you tell them to.  As usuall i was off in lala land and when it came time to ask the driver to stop I didn’t realize it till we had already passed my exit by a few minutes.  So i got off at the next stop and on the next bus heading back towards my school. . . only this time paying a bit more attention.  I then began the long walk up the hill towards my apartment when I realized that I had forgotten my gym back at the night snacks place which in addition to containing my workout clothes had my ipod and my shure headphones (for those who don’t know these are top of the line headphones and even though i bought some of the lower cost ones they still cost around $100 USD).  I quickly ran back down the hill, flagged a cab and headed back to the night snacks place. Luckily they had my bag and everything was intact still.   Being ecstatic that I wouldn’t be without my ipod on all those flights and train rides though SE Asia I decided to treat myself to an ice-cream sunday at KFC and then headed back home and thankfully my power was back on.

Semester winding down

by andrew corn

The end of the Fall semester in China is beginning to wind down.  I finished up my finals at the University last week and have my final  8 classes at the middle school next week.  Once those classes are over for the first time in many many years i’ll have an extended period of time where I’m not working.  Although there are a few potential changes that might cause a change in plans. . . . more on that later
